Louis Cataldie, MD

Dr. Louis Cataldie is a native of Louisiana who received his Medical Degree from LSU Medical School in New Orleans. He has extensive clinical and administrative experience in Addiction Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He has been in the field of addiction medicine for over thirty years. His first encounter with the recovery process began on June 28, 1978. Dr. Cataldie has developed and served as the Medical Director of several successful recovery programs for both adults and adolescents. Dr. Cataldie was a consultant to the White House on adolescent inhalant abuse during the Reagan years.

Dr. Cataldie previously served as Medical Director for the Office of Addictive Disorders for the State of Louisiana. He is a published author and is long recognized as an expert in the field of addiction medicine. Dr. Cataldie is also a sought-after public speaker on the diseases of addiction.

In 2005, he was appointed Medical Examiner for the State of Louisiana and the Incident Commander of the Family Assistance Center for Hurricane Katrina. He was in charge of the recovery and identification of deceased victims of Katrina and for finding the location of over 26,000 missing/displaced persons. Upon completion of that mission, he returned to the field of addiction medicine.

He is actively involved in community service and serves on the I CARE Advisory Board. He has served as Louisiana State Medical Society Governor’s appointee to the Addictive Disorders Resource Authority and to the Child Death Investigation Review Board.

Dr. Cataldie has served as Medical Director of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing and is currently an Addictionologist consultant for the Board’s Recovering Nurse Program. He has also served as Medical Director of the Physician’s Health Foundation of Louisiana.

His current addictionology practice includes providing detoxification, evaluation, and treatment on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for people wishing to recovery from the brain disease of addiction.
